"I
Had Three Great Meals at Anchorage Last Week"
NEW
I think that the prior reviewers were spot on about Anchorage.
If you are interested in great food with excellent service in a
casual atmosphere where there are a lot more locals than tourists
then this is a great choice. I had three different entrees (grilled
calimari, venison and linefish) and they all were delicious. The
calimari salad and mussels are both first rate starters. The short
walk up Gray Street from the Knysna Waterfront or down Gray Street
from the main road is well worth the effort.
Very
good price / quality - don't let the decoration turn you away
NEW
Based on TA we went to this restaurant. When entering the initial
impression with the outdated and simple maritime-themed decoration
might want you to look for another restaurant. Luckily we did not.
For the price-level of this restaurant the food is very good. We
paid ZAR 540 for 2 starters, 2 main courses, 1 bottle of wine, 2
deserts, 2 coffees and the tip.
"If you
are looking for great seafood without the glitter and bright
lights..."
Really a find, given that everyone we spoke to kept on
recommending something on the waterfront which has the more modern
looking (and no doubt more expensive) places to eat. Located on
quiet street this restaurant of something of hidden gem (which I
suspect even the locals have forgotten about). Apart from the great
food, the service was very friendly. Thanks Shandin!.
We love
to go to the Anchorage. The fish (never overdone) and the meat
(tender & tasty) are always a pleasure. Good also the variety on
specials and the traditional African food. Not to forget the
personal attention every guest gets. Thank you!
We always recommend the Anchorage to our guests and only hear good
comments.
We've eaten at Anchorage many times in the past year, and the whole
experience is a very much looked forward event. We've also
recommended the restaurant to almost all our guests, friends and
family and never ever received a negative word afterwards.
The food is ALWAYS excellent, and ever changing specials, tempting
and never dull. Our favourites - the yummy melt in your mouth
calamari and the cooked to perfection Angus steak. The nougat desert
is also a winner. The service is great, with experienced, helpful,
friendly staff. The choice and range of wines etc is also a delight,
the cappuccino tones a nice flavour.
What more can we say. Delicious, Delectable, Dazzling, Dreamy,
Dynamite.
A great balance of everything makes a wonderful evening for all.
A few
weeks ago we had a superb diner @ The Anchorage restaurant with my
brother and his wife. It was a fantastic evening which we thoroughly
enjoyed. Spoil yourself with an evening out and enjoy the Excellent
Food, Great service and last but not least the excellent choice of
wines to accompany your meal. Since a while they also offer
traditional food and we enjoyed a lovely babotie last Saturday.
Thanks Brian we will recommend your restaurant with the greatest
pleasure!
The Anchorage Restaurant is the only restaurant in Knysna that has
the same owner for the last 20 years! They always provide personal
service and although they specialized in seafood their steaks is
mature and done the way you order it. They have a special section
outside under the trees for the smokers. I will always recommend
Anchorage because I know my guests will always be satisfied and it
is also value for money. Good luck with the World Cup!

"Top quality food and wine at a reasonable price"
We ate
there a couple of times during a four day stay at Knysna in November
2009.The food is freshly prepared, fish choices are superb and on
the second visit I had a steak which was one of the best I have ever
had anywhere. Choice of wines were great and not expensive. The
owners are really pleasant and attentive and the service excellent.
We were staying in the Quays and had eaten a couple of night in the
restaurants there which are touristy and nothing special. If you are
staying at the Quays just go out the main entrance and this
restaurant is only a couple of hundred metres up the road. If we had
done that the first night I doubt we would actually have eaten in
the Quays at all.

"Great food and value
for money"
This restaurant is situated just a few hundred metres along the road
opposite the entrance to kynsna quays - and is well worth going to.
Our fresh line fish was great as were the prawns and calamari. The
waiter was really helpful in advising us about the best selection of
dishes and what accompaniments we should have. The prices were very
reasonable - thus providing excellent food at a good price. We had
no problem with the speed of service - and I would rather wait a
little time for the food to be cooked freshly and well as it was
here.

"The best steak on the garden route!"
What a fantastic meal we had at the Anchorage. We were recommended
by the owner of our guest house and it did not disappoint. The
knowledge of the waiting staff on both the food and wine was superb.
The steak was cooked to perfection. A fantastic meal and can't wait
to return to Knysna to try again. Even arranging the taxi back was
no trouble for the staff.
The menu is clarity itself. You know what to expect when you order
but when it comes it always exceeds your expectations. For example,
the baby sole starter is simplicity itself but fresh and delicious.
One evening we had a steak and neither of us in 70+ years have
tasted anything so tender and tasty. Long may it retain this
outstanding quality!
"Quaint
Backstreet Restaurant with excellent Seafood!"
This was a refreshing
surprise from the restaurants on the harbour which were more
touristy. The food was superb and the staff excellent, would
definitely recommend as a visit if you stay in Knysna. The Calamari
Steak was the best I had in South Africa with great mash potato with
chakala.ka sauce
